Horse Racing Preview: Friday 7th July

Father and son team Peter and Sean Bowen team up again on Friday as they go in search of more winners at Newton Abbot.

Sean – surging away this season at the leading jump jockey in the UK – will ride Oliver’s Travels in the final race of the day in Devon.

The five-year-old is firm favourite with most bookmakers for the Sky Sports Racing on Sky 5.35 bumper and DragonBet are offering 8-13 after Oliver’s Travels won at Worcester in a bumper earlier this month.

Maillot Vert and Sangiovese are likely to offer the leading challenges.

Sean has only one other ride on the card, Mr. Mafia, an 11-2 chance with DragonBet in the 5.00, a horse trained by Martin Keighley.

It’s Mr. Mafia’s first run since November, but he was second at Newton Abbot behind Cheltenham De Vaige, last August.

Alongside Sean, Wales-based jockey Adam Wedge rides Just The Man in the 3.50 handicap hurdle.

Just the Man is 14/1 with DragonBet and was second at Ffos Las, behind the Sean Bowen mount, Gavin, last month.

There are flat meetings on Friday at Sandown, Doncaster, Beverley and Haydock.

Welsh jockey David Probert has seven rides at Haydock, where his best chance appears to be on Arkenstaar in the 6.05 handicap.

A winner at Hamilton six weeks ago, and fourth recently behind Lady of Arabia, Arkenstaar is offered at 10/3 with DragonBet.
