Last week was a week that wasn’t, really… | From The Dragon’s Mouth

Last week was a week that wasn’t, really.

One of my personal summer highlights is always Chepstow on Ladies Day. Unfortunately, the heavens opened and the meeting was abandoned.

It’s not exactly Ascot Ladies Day and that’s why I love it.

There’s a real mix of people who turn up and believe me when I say they are all shapes and sizes. It’s often raucous and that’s great, if you ask me.

Lots of people knock it, but that’s one of the strengths of British racing – the nuance and variation that different days and different courses bring.

If you want to swig champagne and mix with A-listers, then go to Goodwood. It’ll be glorious.

At Chepstow, the chances are it’ll be a pint of Strongbow and black and you might spot Carol Vorderman.

The betting won’t be as heavy either, but you can be sure there will be just as many people having a good time and that’s what going racing and having a bet is all about.

This weekend, it’ll be Super Sprint day for us as we pitch up on the rails at Newbury.

Tom Jones is on after racing and if we have a really good day, I might even throw my knickers at him.

It’s always a well-attended meeting and Newbury is a track that can attract some of the big hitters, especially from our pitch position.

So, we’ll be fully stocked up and ready for action. I’ll be taking on Bobsleigh in the big race itself.

The trainer, Eve Johnson Houghton, has been a little in-and-out over the last few weeks and I’d also be a bit concerned about the fact that the Epsom win hasn’t exactly been franked with Balon D’or – who he beat that day – subsequently running a little disappointingly over in France.

If things go wrong and Bobsleigh wins then the recovery mission will be at Ffos Las on Monday week.

It’s sponsored by the racetrack bookmakers and is free to get in. Who says bookmakers don’t ever give you anything?

If you can’t wait for that, then DragonBet can maybe keep you entertained with our football and rugby offers as you get tuned-up for the new season.

Have you been convinced it’s going to a promotion year for Cardiff City on the back of the Aaron Ramsey signing? We’ve got odds on the Bluebirds to win the title and also to get promoted.

The same goes for Swansea City. Or maybe you fancy one of them to go up and the other to get relegated. We’ve got that covered, too.

You might want to have a bet on who you think the Wales captain is going to be for the Rugby World Cup, or some of the United Rugby Championship specials.

We reckon Cardiff are the best bet to finish as the highest Welsh region, but you may disagree. You may fancy the Scarlets, Ospreys, or Dragons.

For those planning on a trip down west to Ffos Las, we’ll see you there.

Pob lwc!
