St. Fagan’s host Port Talbot on Saturday as they aim to move away from Swansea at the top of the South Wales Premier League, Division One.
At present, the gap at the top is just a single point, with Saint Fagan’s one of three clubs – along with Swansea and Newport – who have opened the season with five victories, one defeat and one game abandoned in their seven matches so far.
Last week, St. Fagan’s earned a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Pontardawe, thanks to a former Ammanford player Jack Murphy (96) and Jeremy Lawlor (64), who put on 159 for the first wicket.
They will expect another convincing victory against Port Talbot, who are bottom of the table and the only club in the league yet to earn a win this season.
Swansea travel to Pontarddulais, who are in fourth place and who also earned an eight-wicket win last week, against Port Talbot.
For Swansea, it’s a chance to bounce back from their first defeat of the season against Newport last week, where they were beaten by 24 runs.
Michael Clayden hit 94 not out for Newport, who were indebted to bowler Don Abewardena who took four wickets for 30, including the key wickets of Cameron Hemp and Steffan Roberts.
Newport hope to back up that victory at home to Ynystawe, while Neath host Bridgend Town.
Neath lost narrowly on the DL method against Ynystawe, while Bridgend against Cardiff was abandoned.
Cardiff, in sixth place, travel to bottom-but-one Ammanford.
