PREVIEWS

CYMRU NORTH

It is difficult to justify betting against a top of the table team with eight wins from eight games since the start of the season.

However, that is the direction I am going in with Cymru North leaders Airbus UK Broughton when they visit Colwyn Bay on Friday night.

With a big home crowd behind them and undefeated in seven league outings themselves, I believe third-place Bay will edge victory over the Wingmakers by one or two goals.

Next-to-bottom Llandudno’s patchy form makes them a tough team to read, although it must be said they have improved of late, especially at home to Airbus, who they led until the closing stages when two late goals sank them.

Tudno could easily claim a point at Buckley, whose home results have been mixed, but I take Asa Hamilton’s men to win narrowly.

After losing 9-0 in the Welsh Cup at Gresford Athletic last weekend, how will Prestatyn Town react when they host Flint Mountain on Friday?

Mountain exited the national knockout themselves at lower tier Rhyl 1879, but have shown somewhat better form than the Seasiders.

Could Town capitalise on Flint’s ordinary results of late and produce a surprise turnaround in fortunes?

My gut instinct tells me this might be Prestatyn’s night.

Onto Saturday and Bangor 1876 could find it tricky against a visiting Gresford Athletic outfit on the rise.

Bangor lost twice at home to the Colliers last season – in the league and Nathaniel MG Cup, but we take them to make it third time lucky.

Fifth-place Mold Alexandra can definitely take a point at Guilsfield, Holywell Town should have too much at home for visitors Denbigh Town, while Llay Welfare v Penrhyncoch and Ruthin Town v Caersws have the look of drawn encounters.

SCORECASTS

Buckley Town 2 Llandudno 1

Colwyn Bay 2 Airbus UK Broughton 1

Prestatyn Town 3 Flint Mountain 2

Bangor 1876 1 Gresford Athletic 0

Guilsfield 1 Mold Alexandra 1

Holywell Town 3 Denbigh Town 1

Llay Welfare 0 Penrhyncoch 0

Ruthin Town 2 Caersws 2

ARDAL NORTH EAST

Top-of-the-standings Bow Street can maintain their lofty status with a home victory over a Cefn Albion side which has been fairly inconsistent so far.

What a game in store at Clwyedog Park, where unbeaten Brickfield Rangers host early-season eye-catchers Llangollen, who are coming off the back of a great Welsh Cup win at St Asaph last weekend.

After 10 straight wins, Bricky were held at Radnor Valley in the league and then exited the Welsh Cup at Kinmel Bay last weekend.

Gareth Wilson’s side will be anxious to bounce back at home to a dangerous Llangollen and should just about achieve their mission.

Kerry were stunned at home by an up-to-then out-of-form Rhos Aelwyd last weekend – and the Lambs may well struggle again at Builth Wells.

That victory at Kerry should stand Rhos Aelwyd in good stead when they host fellow low-tablers Llandrindod Wells at Ponciau.

Dolgellau are struggling to get going, but surely they can turn the tide away at lowly Llanidloes Town.

The bottom two meet when Llansantffraid host Chirk. It would be easy to predict a draw, but we lean towards three points for Chirk.

Llanuwchllyn at home to third-place Penycae has the makings of a tremendous contest.

Penycae have won their last six in the league – five of them at home – and they just might be in strong enough mode to get something at Llan.

SCORECASTS

Bow Street 2 Cefn Albion 0

Brickfield Rangers 3 Llangollen Town 1

Builth Wells 3 Kerry 0

CPD Rhos Aelwyd 2 Llandrindod Wells 1

Llanidloes Town 0 Dolgellau AA 2

Llansantffraid Village 1 Chirk AAA 2

Llanuwchllyn 2 Penycae 2

ARDAL NORTH WEST

Dynamic new boys Connah’s Quay Town can make it eight unbeaten since joining the tier 3 league if they avoid defeat at home to Llannefydd.

Gwyndaf Pritchard’s side can upset anyone and might just be the type of team to end Town’s fantastic run, but let’s stay faithful with the Deesiders, who have been magnificent so far.

Neither Corwen or Conwy Borough have pulled up any trees as yet and could finish up level at the end of Saturday’s tussle.

Holyhead Hotspur should be too mighty for Menai Bridge Tigers, bottom with six straight losses, while NFA, who have a spotless home record and are now beginning to shine away, can feel confident of victory against Pwllheli, especially as they have already whipped the Llyn side 5-0 in the Ardal Northern League Cup this term.

Leaders Porthmadog can emerge comfortable winners at home to next-to-bottom Nantlle Vale, but CPD Y Rhyl 1879 versus Llanrwst United at Belle Vue is much harder to call.

Boosted by last Saturday’s Welsh Cup success over higher-level Flint Mountain, third-place Rhyl should be full of confidence, but Llanrwst are anything but easy to beat – a real dark horse of this league.

Buoyed by winning at Nantlle Vale in midweek, Felinheli can grab at least a point at third-bottom St Asaph City.

Trearddur Bay versus Llangefni Town has the makings of a great Anglesey derby.

Bay are eighth and Cefni fourth, but there doesn’t appear to be too much between the teams on paper. Llangefni’s greater experience of tier 3 might just give them the edge.

SCORECASTS

Connah’s Quay Town 2 CPD Llannefydd 1

Corwen 1 Conwy Borough 1

Holyhead Hotspur 4 Menai Bridge Tigers 1

NFA 3 CPD Pwllheli 1

Porthmadog 4 Nantlle Vale 0

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 2 Llanrwst United 2

St Asaph City 1 CPD Y Felinheli 1

Trearddur Bay 1 Llangefni Town 2
