PREVIEWS

JD CYMRU NORTH

Can leaders Airbus make it eight straight league wins when they travel to third-bottom Llandudno on Friday night?

With the Wingmakers having already defeated the Seasiders twice at home this season, 5-0 in the league and 3-1 in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup, the odds weigh heavily in favour of a three-timer for Mark Allen’s side.

Five league games take place on Friday evening, one of the most attractive prospects being the Bangor 1876 v Flint Mountain tussle at the Bangor City Stadium.

Mountain have won just one of their last six outings, but sit handily in seventh place in their first season as a tier 2 club. If they are on song, they can ask a lot of questions of an 1876 team lying fifth in the standings

Buckley Town host Prestatyn Town, who will be buoyed by last weekend’s 6-2 drubbing of Llay Welfare, which lifted the Seasiders out of the bottom three.

With Chris Morrell now appointed manager of Prestatyn, and some good new signings on board, they are capable of getting something at Buckley, who ended a run of three straight losses with a midweek NEWFA Challenge Cup success at tier 5 Broughton United.

Bucks will be determined to add some league points to their tally and could just shade it at home.

Third-place Colwyn Bay will not want Airbus getting too far out of their sights and the Seagulls visit Denbigh Town on a seventh-match unbeaten streak.

Denbigh fought back from 4-1 down to wrest a 4-4 home draw with Flint Mountain last weekend, but are likely to find the Bay a tougher proposition.

One-off-the-bottom Gresford Athletic may struggle to get past the challenge of a Guilsfield side already with two away wins on their record this term.

Three more games on Saturday, with bottom team Llay Welfare, winless in seven, hosting Caersws, who have lost their last four.

However, the Bluebirds have been triumphant at Flint Mountain and Guilsfield this season, and if they can repeat their showings in those games, can take all three points at The Ring.

Mold Alexandra are going nicely in fourth spot under new manager Barry Owen and may fancy their chances of seeing off visitors Ruthin Town, who nonetheless have won their last three, albeit all at home. Plenty of goals follow Town around, so expect a possible high score.

Holywell Town have settled nicely in second spot and won’t want the six-point gap to leaders Airbus growing any wider when the Wellmen travel to enigmatic Penrhyncoch.

SCORECASTS

Bangor 1876 2 Flint Mountain 2
Buckley Town 3 Prestatyn Town 2
Denbigh Town 1 Colwyn Bay 3
Gresford Athletic 1 Guilsfield 2
Llandudno 0 Airbus UK 3

Llay Welfare 0 Caersws 2
Mold Alexandra 3 Ruthin Town 3
Penrhyncoch 0 Holywell Town 2

ARDAL NORTH EAST

Seven games on Saturday and one the following day in this tier 3 division.

Leaders Brickfield Rangers aim to make it six wins from six games when they visit early strugglers Radnor Valley.

Bricky have won 10 and lost just one of their opening 11 matches in all competitions and should have too much for their hosts, who have just a single victory in six league starts.

Andy Vale and Jay Richardson are likely to prove real danger men for the Wrexham visitors.

Cefn Albion and Llanuwchllyn are two teams expected to be among the top 5. Both have made moderate starts and Saturday’s clash of the pair at Clywedog Park has the makings of a draw.

After an impressive 2023-24, Dolgellau have not got going yet this term, but they should still have too much for a Rhos Aelwyd side beaten six times in a row.

Kerry will be out for revenge when they entertain a Bow Street team they lost 3-0 to at Cae Piod less than a month ago.

Fifth-place Kerry have won their last three at Dolforgan Park, but Bow in third might just edge it.

One wonders, though, how the resignation of Llyr Hughes as Bow manager this week will affect the team.

The last time Llandrindod Wells hosted Llansantffraid Village at home in the league, they lost 2-0 to them in May. Could we see a repeat at The Broadway on Saturday? Hard to envisage with next-to-bottom Saints’ poor away form.

Although hammered 5-0 at Brickfield in the FAW Amateur Trophy last weekend, Llangollen have started this campaign really well and should bounce back at home to Llanfair United, whose away results so far across all competitions have nonetheless been decent.

Penycae have a 100 percent home record so far, but can they extend it when second-place Builth Wells travel to Afoneitha Road? We go for a draw or narrow away win.

Sunday sees Chirk AAA – rock bottom with six consecutive losses – home to Llanidloes, who are three places above them. On their day, the Daffs can be blooming good, but let’s believe in the Colliers’ spirit bringing them a first point.

SCORECASTS

Cefn Albion 2 Llanuwchllyn 2
Dolgellau Athletic 2 Rhos Aelwyd 0
Kerry 1 Bow Street 2
Llandrindod Wells 3 Llansantffraid 1
Llangollen Town 2 Llanfair United 0
Penycae 2 Builth Wells 3
Radnor Valley 0 Brickfield Rangers 4

Chirk AAA 1 Llanidloes Town 1

ARDAL NORTH WEST

Porthmadog, Llangefni Town and Connah’s Quay Town share top billing in the table at present with 13 points apiece.

Will all three have boosted their totals by another three come 4.15 pm on Saturday?

There’s a good chance Port will rebound positively from their stunning 5-0 home loss to Holyhead Hotspur in the FAW Trophy last weekend by beating Corwen at Y Traeth.

Corwen must be respected, though, after ending Brickfield Rangers’ 10-macth winning run in the NEWFA Challenge Cup in midweek.

Llangefni Town should have the edge over an NFA side invincible at home, but not so effective away, while unbeaten newcomers Connah’s Quay are definitely capable of cashing in on Nantlle Vale’s ineffective start to 2024-25.

We predict wins for all the top three.

Conwy Borough versus St Asaph City has the mark of a draw, while Rhyl 1879 will definitely find it hard going at Llannefydd, a ground where they have struggled to get a result before.

Still without a point, Menai Bridge Tigers might have to wait a little longer with Llanrwst United well equipped for a W at Treborth.

Pwllheli always have it in them to upset the form book and will make it tricky for Holyhead, but after last weekend’s amazing result at Porthmadog, who can bet against the Holy Islanders completing a quick Llyn Peninsula double?

Felinheli are tough customers at home, but with Les Davies on fire up front, Trearddur Bay can grab a narrow win at Cae Seilo.

SCORECASTS

Conwy Borough 2 St Asaph City 2
Llangefni Town 3 NFA FC 0
CPD Llannefydd 2 CPD Y Rhyl 1879 1
Menai Bridge Tigers 0 Llanrwst United 2
Nantlle Vale 1 Connah’s Quay Town 3
Porthmadog 3 Corwen 2
CPD Pwllheli 1 Holyhead Hotspur 4
CPD Y Felinheli 1 Trearddur Bay 2
