PREVIEWS

CYMRU NORTH

After getting their first league win in 13 attempts last weekend, can Prestatyn Town keep the momentum going when they welcome Mold Alexandra to Bastion Gardens on Friday night?

Town lost 7-0 away to Alex back in August, so will be keen to put the record straight.

The omens might be good for the Seasiders. Last Saturday they won 1-0 against a Caersws team which had whipped them 8-0 in Powys almost three months earlier.

Prestatyn are a different proposition now.

Just two league matches on Saturday, Buckley Town should have the edge over Caersws at Globe Way, while enigmatic Guilsfield look to build on last weekend’s win over Bangor 1876 when they host Flint Mountain.

Elsewhere, Cymru North teams will square up in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup Northern quarter-finals on Saturday.

Bangor 1876 are desperate for a victory after failing to win in seven league clashes and it could be their day when a Ruthin Town side not in the best of form themselves arrive at Bangor City Stadium.

Ruthin are the last side 1876 beat in a league match back in November. Michael Johnston’s side look a fair shout for a repeat success.

Hard to see on-fire Colwyn Bay slipping up at Gresford Athletic, while Airbus UK Broughton should bounce back from last weekend’s loss at Holywell Town when they travel to Llay Welfare.

Holywell will have been boosted by that victory against the Wingmakers, but they can expect a tricky tie at Penrhyncoch.

LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH EAST

Builth Wells showed signs of a return to form by beating Cefn Albion last weekend, and they should get at least a point at home to Dolgellau, who will hit top spot with a win.

Llandrindod Wells versus Cefn Albion has the makings of a draw, while Rhos Aelwyd’s superb win against high-flyers Kerry last time out should stand them in good stead for their trip to Llanfair United.

Bottom side Chirk are an improved outfit of late, but it might prove a little too testing for them at Penycae.

SCORECASTS

Builth Wells 1 Dolgellau Athletic 1
Llandrindod Wells 2 Cefn Albion 2
Llanfair United 1  Rhos Aelwyd 2
Penycae 1 Chirk AAA 0

LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH WEST

Admission will be free when leaders CPD Y Rhyl 1879 entertain Pwllheli, with a win guaranteed to put the Lilywhites six points clear.

Unbeaten in their last nine league matches, Paul Moore’s side triumphed 2-0 at Pwllheli just a fortnight ago and on that form should make it a double.

Free entry is on offer as a thank you from Rhyl to its fans for their loyalty and to celebrate recently securing ownership of the newly-named Hops and Barley Community Stadium, formerly known as Belle Vue.

The bottom two meet at Y Morfa, where Conwy Borough welcome Menai Bridge Tigers.

Boro have lost 10 league games on the bounce. The last team they beat? Menai Bridge 2-1 away in October. Bridge have lost their last four league encounters.

Llangefni Town and Connah’s Quay Town will both be looking to steady the ship after some jolting results when they clash at Cae Bob Parry.

Holyhead Hotspur are undefeated in five and hammered Conwy Borough 7-0 away on Thursday.

Darren Garmey’s side could go equal second with Porthmadog with a victory at always tricky customers St Asaph City.

SCORECASTS

Conwy Borough 2 Menai Bridge Tigers 2
CPD Y Rhyl 1879 3 Pwllheli 1
Llangefni Town 2 Connahs Quay Town 0
St Asaph City 1 Holyhead Hotspur 2

LOCK STOCK ARDAL NORTH LEAGUE CUP ROUND OF 16

Some cracking ties on the agenda for Saturday in a cup where East and West combine their talents.

Brickfield Rangers should just shade it at home to Llanuwchllyn, expect Bow Street to take the spoils at Llanidloes Town, while two West sides in superb nick, Llanrwst United and Llannefydd, cross swords at Parc Gwydir. This one could go to penalties.

NFA should comfortably see off Nantlle Vale, while Porthmadog have the beating of Felinheli at Y Traeth, but will need to be wary of the visitors’ battling spirit.

Radnor Valley look a decent call to eliminate Llangollen Town, while the dazzling Trearddur Bay will aim to match January’s form – five wins out of five – when they kick off February at home to Corwen, however this one could end up very close.

Corwen pipped Bay 4-3 at home in a league cracker back in October.

SCORECASTS

Brickfield Rangers 2 CPD Llanuwchllyn 1
Llanidloes Town 0 Bow Street 3
Llanrwst United 1 CPD Llannefydd 1 (Llannefydd on penalties)
NFA FC 4 CPD Nantlle Vale 1
Porthmadog 3 CPD Y Felinheli 1
Radnor Valley 2 Llangollen Town 1
Trearddur Bay 1 Corwen 1 (Trearddur Bay on penalties)
