PREVIEWS

Lock Stock Ardal North West

This could be a very crucial weekend in the race for the tier 3 Ardal North West title.

Leaders Bangor 1876 are just a point clear of Denbigh Town, who have a game in hand.

Both are assured of a top-two finish.

Bangor will complete their fixtures when they host Hawarden Rangers on Saturday, while on the same afternoon, Denbigh welcome Nantlle Vale to Central Park in their penultimate match, with a visit to bottom side Rhostyllen to follow on Saturday, May 13.

Town picked up a vital victory on Wednesday night when they triumphed 3-1 at Llanrwst.

It was just what the doctor ordered for Dewi Llion Jones’ side, who lost 2-1 in the FAW Amateur Trophy Final against Trethomas Bluebirds four days earlier on the back of a 17-match victory streak coming to an end with a 4-2 defeat at Llay Welfare in the league.

So, both 1876 and Denbigh will enter the weekend combat in fine fettle.

On paper, Town have the tougher task at home to Nantlle, who they narrowly beat 1-0 away in late March. Fifth-place Vale later went on to win 4-3 at high-flyers Rhyl 1879 and gave Bangor a tough battle in a 3-1 defeat recently.

Bangor 1876 have beaten Hawarden twice already this season, 4-1 at home in the league cup and 2-0 at Gladstone Fields in an Ardal North West contest.

With seven league wins in a row, one would expect 1876 to succeed n style against struggling opponents, while Denbigh will be determined to take at least a draw to give them the best possible chance to lift the title on goal difference on the final day.

Two home wins is the pick.

Basement boys Rhostyllen could yet avoid a bottom-place finish if they can scoop at least four points from their last two games.

The much-improved Wrexham side travel to Llangefni Town on Saturday. It has been an up and down season for the Anglesey outfit, but they did win 2-0 at Rhostyllen in March and their better performances against higher-placed teams suggests they could be victorious again.

Llay Welfare and Llanrwst United have almost identical records in mid-table and that may remain the same with a draw looking the best call.

SCORECASTS

Bangor 1876 4 Hawarden Rangers 0

Denbigh Town 3 Nantlle Vale 1

Llangefni Town 1 Rhostyllen 0

Llay Welfare 2 Llanrwst United 2

Lock Stock Ardal North East

With Caersws already crowned champions, the battle is now on between Cefn Albion and Bow Street for runners-up and a spot in the Cymru North promotion play-off final against the second placed team in Ardal North West.

Bow are three points behind Cefn with a game in hand, but an inferior goal difference of eight.

Street have to be looking to win at fifth-place Rhos Aelwyd on Saturday. No easy feat, but Rhos have not been pulling up trees of late, although they did end Llanfair United’s recent resurgence with a 2-0 victory over the Powys men at Ponciau Park on Tuesday.

Caersws will aim to turn on a champions’ performance at next-to-bottom Corwen, while Llanfair seek to bounce back from Tuesday’s setback when they visit Dolgellau.

On Friday night, Llanuwchllyn look a good shout to maintain their fine recent run with a home success over Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant.

Mid-table Llandrindod Wells should have the measure of rock bottom Rhayader.

SCORECASTS

Llanuwchllyn 3 Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 0

Corwen 1 Caersws 4

Dolgellau 1 Llanfair United 2

Llandrindod Wells 2 Rhayader Town 0

Rhos Aelwyd 1 Bow Street 2
