When is the Grand National 2027?
Saturday 10 April 2027, due off at 4pm. It’s the finale of Aintree’s 3-day festival, which opens on Thursday 8 April with Ladies Day on the Friday.

The 2020 race was a Covid casualty, the only running lost since the war. And the recent list is a Mullins family album: Willie Mullins has trained 3 of the last 4 winners, with son Patrick riding Nick Rockett in 2025 and Paul Townend twice aboard I Am Maximus.
The records
Red Rum stands alone: 3 wins (1973, 1974, 1977) and 2 seconds in 5 straight Nationals. Tiger Roll’s back-to-back wins in 2018 and 2019 made him the first dual winner since, and I Am Maximus has now joined him on 2.
Rachael Blackmore’s win on Minella Times in 2021 made her the first female jockey to win the race. And in 2022 amateur Sam Waley-Cohen won on Noble Yeats in his final ever ride.
Wales and the National
Here’s the itch Welsh racing can’t scratch: no Welsh-trained horse has won the National since Kirkland in 1905. Tim Vaughan, Christian Williams and Evan Williams have all sent hopefuls east, and the wait goes on.
The jockeys have done rather better. Pembrokeshire’s Carl Llewellyn won it twice, on Party Politics in 1992 and Earth Summit in 1998. Earth Summit had already won the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow, still the classic route to Aintree form.
