Six Nations 2027: Wales fixtures, how to watch and the state of play

Nothing moves Wales like the Six Nations. For six weeks in late winter the country checks the fixture list before it checks the weather. Here is everything for 2027: every Wales fixture, how to watch, and where Welsh rugby stands going in.

Wales’ Six Nations 2027 fixtures

Two home games this year, and they are the two that matter most. Ireland and England both come to Cardiff. The championship runs from 5 February to 13 March, finishing with all three final-round games on Super Saturday.

How to watch the Six Nations

Free to air, as it should be. The championship is shared between the BBC and ITV under the current rights deal, and S4C carries Welsh-language coverage of every Wales game. Which channel gets which match is confirmed nearer the tournament, and we will update this page when it is.

Wales in the championship

Wales have won 39 championships since 1883, level with England on the all-time list. England hold more outright titles, 29 to Wales’ 28, the difference being shared championships from the years before points difference separated teams.

In the Six Nations era, from 2000 onwards, Wales have six outright titles and four Grand Slams.

France went into 2027 as the reigning champions.

The things worth winning

The championship itself is the prize, and a Grand Slam means winning all five matches. Below that sits the Triple Crown, which one of the four home nations takes by beating the other three in the same campaign. At the other end is the wooden spoon, for finishing bottom, and Wales have had recent experience of it.

A short history

The championship started in 1883 as the Home Nations, between England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. France came in and made it the Five Nations, and Italy joined in 2000 to give us the six we have now. Wales have been there for all of it.

Wales’ Grand Slams

Twelve in total, second only to England’s 13. The gaps between them tell their own story: three before the First World War, two in the 1950s, a golden run in the 1970s, then four in the modern era.

Wales’ 2019 slam under Warren Gatland was the most recent, and it came in a year that ended with a World Cup semi-final. The wooden spoons since have been a long way from that.

Where Wales stand

Honestly? Rebuilding. Wales took a third straight wooden spoon in 2026, though the final-day 31-17 win over Italy in Cardiff ended a 15-match championship losing run and gave the rebuild its first real result.
