Everton v Chelsea: “Chelsea will go to Everton and nick it”

Everton are unbeaten after 6 league games under David Moyes, with 2 wins and 4 draws, most recently 2-2 at Hull. Chelsea beat Bournemouth 5-1 last time out, and João Pedro scored twice.

“Everton have made a really good start. I think David Moyes is such an underrated manager. He goes to Manchester United, it doesn’t work out, and from then on he’s kind of battling for his reputation. But as you can see now, he’s good, and he comes back to Everton and he’s doing a fantastic job. I think they’re a solid outfit. They will no doubt be comfortable in the Premier League this season, but they’re playing against a Chelsea side which is slowly coming together.”

“Their individuals are superb. Their attacking intent, strength and abilities are almost second to none. But it’s trying to put it all together, and I can just see signs of them slowly putting that together. This will be a test for both sides, because Chelsea have to go to these sorts of places and get a good result, and I can see them doing that. So I think Chelsea will go to Everton and nick it. I’m going 1-0 to Chelsea, and the scorer is [João] Pedro.”

“Pedro looks good. If you’ve got Palmer and Rogers alongside you, or Neto, whoever it may be, you’re going to get some chances. He’s got the ability, great movement, a great finisher. So yeah, I can see Pedro getting on the scoresheet.”

Newcastle v Aston Villa: “a scoring draw”

Newcastle have lost 4-1 twice already this season: at Leeds in September and at Coventry on 12 October, when Sven Botman scored their only goal.

“Newcastle came to Elland Road and got beaten quite comfortably. Then they recently lost to Coventry 4-1. It’s been a tough time for Newcastle, selling some of their best players, and you’re not looking to suddenly get into those Champions League places. They’re kind of on a survival mission, and it’s going to be tough.”

“For Aston Villa, you’ve got a side who we know will get it together. I remember last season Villa actually started poorly. I saw a couple of their games and thought, well, they’re really going to struggle this season. Slowly but surely, Emery tinkered, got the right players in the right positions, and with Buendía back in and playing really well, all of a sudden they go flying on a great run. So I believe Emery will work it out.”

“For Newcastle, I feel a bit more pain for them, but I don’t think they’ll lose. So I’ll go for a scoring draw, probably 2-2. And who’s going to get on the scoresheet? Let’s go for one of their defenders, Sven Botman.”

Leeds v Manchester United: “2-1 to Leeds”

Leeds won 2-1 at Old Trafford in April. They’ve lost once in the league this season, 2-1 at Arsenal after taking the lead. Manchester United are 13th with 6 points from 6 games, and the pressure on Michael Carrick is growing.

“Leeds United against Manchester United is fascinating. It’s normally red-hot. The rivalry is intense. We know that the last time both clubs played, it was at Old Trafford and Leeds came out on top. So there’ll be a lot of determination from the home side to repeat that feat, because they don’t do it too often.”

“For Manchester United, it’s a huge game. They’re under pressure. They haven’t had a great start to the season and, of course, Michael Carrick’s job has already been talked about as being on the line. So for them to then have to come to Elland Road, I’m sure that’s not a fixture they would have picked as the next one.”

“The way Leeds are playing, I think they’re certainly physically strong, but mentally I think they’re in a really good place. They have a good system, and they’re getting some really good results. The performance last week against Arsenal was an excellent one, but Arsenal were just too good on the day. Considering last season was a 5-0 drubbing, losing 2-1 after going a goal ahead was a big improvement for Leeds.”

“So I do see this going towards the home side, 2-1 to Leeds. And I think Dominic Calvert-Lewin will continue his very good goalscoring record and get on the scoresheet.”
